Wetsuits

Choose a wetsuit by fit, coverage and suitability for the conditions you expect. Compare thickness alongside cut, seams, zip arrangement and freedom of movement. A thicker suit is not automatically the right purchase. Ask your instructor or operator about local conditions, then try the exact size with the rest of your planned clothing.

What to Look For

A useful fitting checks more than whether the zip closes. Notice the neck, shoulders, torso length, knees and the reach needed to operate your equipment. Large gaps and restrictive pressure both deserve attention. Compare full suits with separate jackets or trousers as different clothing arrangements rather than interchangeable listings. If you plan to layer garments, try the combination and confirm the intended use with the manufacturer. Your thermal comfort can differ from another diver’s, so avoid choosing from a destination name alone. Check care instructions and think about drying and packing the suit between dives as well as on the journey home.

Questions Before You Choose

Is the Thickest Wetsuit Always the Warmest Choice?

Thickness is one consideration, but fit, coverage and the complete clothing arrangement also matter. A poorly fitted suit may not behave as you expect. Discuss your planned conditions and personal comfort with an instructor, then compare suitable designs and sizes instead of treating the largest thickness number as the answer.

Can I Buy a Wetsuit from My Normal Clothing Size?

Use the specific manufacturer’s chart and body measurements as the starting point. Different cuts can vary in torso length, shoulder space and proportions even when the labels match. Try the suit when possible and assess movement, rather than assuming a familiar small, medium or large size will fit.

Should I Choose a Full Suit or Separate Pieces?

Separate garments can offer different fitting and layering options, while a full suit has its own coverage and closure arrangement. Compare how the pieces work together and what the manufacturer intends them for. Ask your instructor about a suitable setup for your diving, then check comfort in the assembled clothing system.

After Choosing Your Equipment

Make room for care as well as the purchase. Keep the relevant manual, record the exact model, and establish a rinse, drying and storage routine appropriate to that item. Ask a qualified service provider about equipment that needs inspection or professional servicing. A replacement accessory should solve a clear problem in a setup you already understand.
