Dive Gear
Dive Reels & SMB
Choose a surface-marker and reel or spool as a compatible system for procedures you have been taught. Compare marker type, inflation method, line length and handling with gloves. An SMB and a delayed-deployment marker can have different roles. Confirm the exact product and practise deployment with an instructor before relying on the setup.

What to Look For
Distinguish the marker itself from the spool, line and clip supplied alongside it. A photograph may show a complete arrangement while a selectable variant contains only one component. Check the marker’s intended inflation method and the instructions for the exact design. Line capacity should relate to the planned procedure and training, not simply the largest number available. Compare how you can hold the spool and operate its clip with your gloves. Plan storage on the assembled kit so the system remains accessible and controlled. Site practices and boat procedures vary, so confirm the operator’s expectations before the dive.

Questions Before You Choose
Are an SMB and a DSMB the Same Thing?
Names are sometimes used loosely in listings, so read the actual product design and intended deployment method. A marker used at the surface and one deployed from underwater can involve different equipment and procedures. Confirm the model and learn the appropriate method with your instructor instead of relying on the abbreviation alone.
How Much Line Should My Spool Hold?
Choose the line capacity as part of a configuration appropriate to the procedure and depths covered by your training. More line is not automatically easier to manage. Discuss the complete marker-and-spool arrangement with your instructor and check the actual supplied line rather than assuming the spool’s maximum capacity is included.
Does a Marker Bundle Include Everything Needed?
Check the selected variant for the marker, spool or reel, line, clip and any other components. Bundles differ and photographs may illustrate optional items. Confirm compatibility and instructions for the assembled system, then practise using it with an instructor; the contents of a box do not replace deployment training.
After Choosing Your Equipment
Make room for care as well as the purchase. Keep the relevant manual, record the exact model, and establish a rinse, drying and storage routine appropriate to that item. Ask a qualified service provider about equipment that needs inspection or professional servicing. A replacement accessory should solve a clear problem in a setup you already understand.
